An optical incremental encoder is a sensor used to measure the rotational position, speed, and direction of a rotating shaft. The encoder consists of a disk with evenly spaced lines, known as pulses or marks, and a sensor that detects the light changes as the disk rotates. By counting the number of pulses or marks generated by the encoder, the system can calculate the angular position, speed, and direction of the shaft. Optical incremental encoders are commonly used in robotics, automation, and CNC machines for precise control of position and motion.
