Absolute Output Draw Wire Displacement Sensors are sensors that measure linear displacement, position or motion using a cable or wire that is wound around a drum or pulley. The sensor typically consists of a wire, a drum, a spring, and a sensing element. As the wire is pulled or extended, the drum rotates, causing a change in the position of the sensing element, which converts the movement into an electrical signal that is proportional to the displacement or position of the object being measured.
The “absolute output” feature means that the sensor provides a precise and unambiguous measurement of the position or displacement of the object being measured, without the need for recalibration or resetting to a reference point. This is in contrast to “incremental output” sensors which only provide relative measurements based on a reference point.
Draw wire displacement sensors are commonly used in a variety of industrial, automotive, and aerospace applications where accurate position or motion control is required. They are also known as cable extension transducers or cable potentiometers.
